SO Int Conf AIDS. 1994 Aug 7-12;10(1):402 (abstract no. PD0215). Unique Identifier : AIDSLINE ICA10/94370571 AB I am infected by HIV since February 7, 1990. Before that day I was living a common life. My partner whom I was living together, also he was infected and it was revealed him by a clinic exam. He died in February 13, 1993. During all these jears I have gained experience about HIV/AIDS and I have developed a volunteer work by invitation of Dr. Mario Peixoto in the Conceicao Hospital at Porto Alegre city. I have been working with HIV patients in that hospital. They are getting helth treatmen there during the day period and by night they return to their homes. The experience of my volunteer working with these people is helping them with kind, friendship, informations and helping their families. It was created a group of self-helping like a ONG in partnership with GAPA (Aids Prevention and Help Group), Prefeitura Municipal de Porto Alegre (PMPA), and gay community. Now I am working as a volunteer in the PMPA and Prefeitura Municipal de Sao Lourenco do Sul (Both in the State of Rio Grande do Sul). I am engaged in wachting and prevention, because of the large growth of the pandemic. I am trying to inform the population about the HIV/AIDS risks and consequences. Also, I am working to help the infected people to have a normal life with the HIV virus. I only feel that I am HIV infected when I use Zudozovine medicamnet and when I know a new HIV infected is coming. My life has changed a lot since I knew a HIV infected, but I am trying to take love and smile to each on are siffering with this disease, despite my life was not the same since those February 1990 and 1993. I hope to help this program with my experiences with prevention group in a large city of South America as Porto Alegre, for this reason the scholarschip is important, in order to show our strategies for control and prevention to the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
